Chinese Wear Masks to Fight Pollution

January 15, 2013 GB Times - Severe air pollution that has shrouded large parts of China in smog since Friday has created a high demand for face masks.

Beijing has been hidden in thick in smog containing dangerously  high levels of pollutants for several days, reported China Daily.

Authorities are urging the public to stay indoors or wear protective masks while going outside.

The seemingly never-ending smog has boosted demand for face masks.

Despite the bad situation, many citizens of China’s capital have decided to liven up the foggy streets by wearing personalized masks.

Cute animals and cartoon characters seem to be their favorites from what we can tell from the photos taken in Beijing.

It's worth to mention though, that those masks don't offer protection from air pollution since they are not designed to stop small particles.
